You are listening to the "Grow a Thriving Practice" podcast. This is Episode 88: "Wealth Consciousness." My name is Jillian Faldmo, and I am the business and life coach for sound and energy medicine practitioners who want to turn their practices into aligned careers that point toward freedom, flexibility, and fulfillment. This is the "Grow a Thriving Practice" podcast.
Hello there! I'm so happy to be here with you today. I hope this episode is finding you well and enjoying the abundance of spring. I think this is absolutely the perfect time for an episode on abundance, or as I've titled it, "Wealth Consciousness." Because abundance is just—it's in the air right now. And I'm really excited to share this with you today because I've been diving into the topic of wealth consciousness and um, studying it and um, just really experiencing um, so much abundance and wealth lately. And so, I want to share it with you because I think it's really important as business owners and practitioners who are wanting to grow a practice, to be really aware of how money is created and how it can benefit you. And so, what better place to start than wealth consciousness?
Your beliefs and your thoughts about wealth and that practice of creating wealth in your life. So many of us desire to have more money, right? In fact, I hear it all the time when I coach my clients. One of the first things that we really focus on is what are our financial goals. It's also a desire that I'm very familiar with. I would love to have plenty of money, and I do, right? But I want more and why? Why do I want more? And I think um, some people don't agree with me wanting more money. I've heard that before too. But I truly believe that a certain amount of money, it does give you more freedom and that it allows you to choose your time, to use your time, to choose the way you use your time, the way you'd like. And it also helps to solve a lot of problems. I definitely know that. There's so many opinions about this, and that's why it can be really difficult to achieve financial success, to feel like you are self-sufficient financially, that you're not always trying to make ends meet right now.
Many of us struggle because we have subconscious programming in place, and with wealth consciousness, that's an intentional mindset that can help you to attract prosperity and abundance into your life. So the subconscious programming that you know, we're often taught growing up with our upbringing, it's of a poor mindset, a poor financial mindset, rather than being in a place of abundance and flow. We're in that place subconsciously of lack and scarcity. Those self-limiting beliefs around money can look like: "I need money now," "I don't have enough," "There isn't enough for me," "If I have more money, then there's actually going to be less for others." And when those programs are running in the background, what are we attracting? We're attracting more lack and more scarcity.
So in today's episode, I want to explore with you exactly what wealth consciousness is, why it matters, and I also will offer you some tips for how you can start to cultivate it into your life, how you can start to deprogram your subconscious mind and reprogram it to attract more wealth and more abundance.
So what really turned me on to this topic was a book that I've had on my bookshelf for years, and I never once opened it. I think when Matt and I got together, we just had this, like, union of books. So there's a lot of books on my bookshelf that I haven't read, but this one in particular I was not expecting the results that I got from this book. It's called "A Happy Pocket Full of Money: Infinite Wealth and Abundance in the Here and Now" by David Cameron G. Condi, and I've never heard of him before. Um, but now I'm like, please write more books. I don't even know, maybe he has written more books. But I opened this book and one of the first things that I read was, "Money is not real." And I was like, oh, this is gonna be good. What's he got to say? I knew right then and there that I was gonna start thinking differently and, so actually, you'll have to read the book to truly understand this concept of "money is not real," but I wanted to pull a quote from the book to just give you an idea.
So, um, this is actually so he introduces this concept in the beginning of the book, but I had to get to chapter 22 to really, like, get back into that concept again. Now, I will say in this book, he starts with that and then he goes into quantum physics principles to talk about how to generate more wealth in our lives by practicing wealth consciousness and the whole science behind it. So it's absolutely amazing and intriguing. Highly recommend it. So, but this is from chapter 22 called "Money: How to Use It." He says, "Money is a symbol of wealth and the beginning of the experiencing of wealth, so that we may know what wealth tastes like experientially. Money has 2 primary uses: it allows us to exchange our gifts and it allows us to experience wealth. Through this experience, we are able to increase our wealth consciousness and love it even more. Wealth consciousness begets wealth and money, which begets wealth consciousness, and the cycle goes on. It's a circle, a full cycle."
And quote, when we think of money in this way as an exchange and a means to experience wealth, it does really change our experience of it. It takes the charge away. So many of us have our triggering thoughts and emotions around money. I've heard things like, "Money is the root of all evil." Wanting more money means you're greedy. Money complicates things. There's not enough money. If I have more, then others will have less. And it's no wonder that so many people are walking around with a poor mindset around money. They're thinking it's the cause of their problems or it's the cause of the world's problems. But money is neutral. Money is a tool. And bad people are gonna do bad things with money. Greedy people are gonna do greedy things with money. But good people can do good things with money. Generous people can do generous things with money. Amazing people can do amazing things with money. And you, I know you are good. You are amazing. You are generous, right? I know that because of the work that you do. You wouldn't be in this line of work if you weren't good, amazing, and generous. So think about it, if you had more money, what good things could you do with it? You could buy dinner for your friends. You could set your parents up with an amazing caretaker when they need it. You could put your kids through college, donate to charity.
Just think of all the amazing things you could do. You deserve to have plenty of money. You deserve to have wealth. Think of all the people around you who might benefit from you having plenty of money. Okay, so hopefully you're starting to feel more abundant already. When you believe that you can create wealth and prosperity and that you are worthy of it, you're going to be more likely to take action toward those goals. You are also more likely to attract opportunities and resources that can help you achieve those goals.
So when we're practicing a wealth consciousness mindset again, which is a mindset that focuses on abundance and prosperity, we can start feeling more fulfilled and empowered in our lives and stop the struggle of making ends meet and worrying about our financial future.
So how can you start to cultivate this into your own life? I've got some tips for you. I've got 4 tips for you, and I'm really excited to share with you. So, the first one: focus on abundance instead of focusing on what you don't have or what you can't do. Shift your mindset to focus on what you do have and what you can do. One of the things that helped me with this is a coaching tool that I use with clients, and even our family actually made a game of it. List 25 things that you want that you already have. I think so many times we are encouraged to make a list of all the things we want that we don't have, like what are we aiming for, what are our goals? But if you list all of the things that you want that you already have, I promise you, it gets you into that, like tunes you into abundance, right? I love being able to count the things that I want that I already have. My husband, my kids, my pets, I love my car, my health, my clients, the fresh fruit that I have on the counter. Practice that gratitude for the abundance that's already in your life because it is so easy to overlook. We really have to stay conscious in that way and intentionally practice gratitude. I also use this in my coaching practice when clients come to me and they're like, you know, I'm frustrated, I don't have enough clients yet, and so I actually have them shift their focus to the clients that they do have and focus on celebrating them, celebrating those clients' wins, celebrating their results that they've helped those clients get. It really does start to shift things. Okay, so that's the first one: focus on abundance.
The second tip I have for you is visualize success. This one works for me all of the time, and again, it's another thing that has to be intentional. Our brains don't like intentional. Our brains like to exert the least amount of effort, so practices that require intention, they require effort, our brains don't like that. So, we have to make time for this. Visualize yourself achieving your financial goals and imagine in great detail what your life will look like and how you'll be feeling when you have the amount of money that you desire. This is such a fun thing to do, and it's really amazing what opportunities present when you make this a regular practice.
So, in a happy pocket full of money, Jakandi explains how this works by. Actually, he starts off by explaining how time works. And I'll be honest, I don't fully understand the explanation of time. But essentially, the concept of time is just that—it's a concept. It's like it doesn't exist; it's an illusion. And quantum physics even provides that there's only now and here, and the present moment—the eternal moment. So, I'm quoting him: "Everything that can possibly happen in the universe, everything that can possibly be created—the past, present, and future—are all running at the same time, and your consciousness and awareness are awake to only a small section of this field at any one time." End quote. I kind of paraphrase a little bit too, but so as you expand your consciousness and awareness with visualization, the way I understand it is you're actually allowing yourself to experience success in the here and now, and life will use that as instructions to manifest those images into reality. There's a whole documentary on this called "The Secret," and if you haven't watched it, I totally recommend checking it out. Or if you have seen it, I recommend rewatching it if it's been a while. And, you know, they go into the whole science and people's experiences about this thing called visualization, where you can actually manifest what it is that you want. Now, making your visualization and reality isn't always instant, right? As I'm sure you know. And there's a reason why we have to train our subconscious mind, which involves repetition. If our conscious mind is saying, "I am wealthy, I am wealthy, I am wealthy," but the subconscious mind is still programmed to "I'll never have enough," it's going to be very difficult to achieve wealth. You have to make this a practice in order for it to work. But I will say, visualizing something one time can create a positive effect and completely change the energetics around a situation. I know firsthand because I've practiced it with weightlifting, I've practiced it with different difficult conversations, with attracting new clients, I've practiced it with the number in my bank account, and even with the number on the scale. That was a really crazy one because I visualized the number on the scale, and the next morning, I achieved that number, and it was...um, it was surprising. I'll just say that. So, each time I've done this visualization, I experienced something really significant that made me go, "Okay, this really works," which is why I'm sharing it with you today. Because if you're not spending time visualizing, you are missing out on tapping into something incredible within you. All right, so that is the second tip: visualize success. The third tip: take action toward your goals. Wealth consciousness isn't just about positive thinking and visualizing all day long. It's also about taking action. And sometimes, wealth can happen pretty passively, but oftentimes, we must take massive action. We've got to be meeting new people, telling them what you do, making offers to help them. You also want to start identifying some ways to increase your income and reduce your expenses, and commit to taking those actions.
Pay attention to your money. Know how much comes in and how much goes out. This is one that eluded me for a long time. I, like many others, was not taught really anything at all about money. They used to teach you, you know, about how to do your own bookkeeping and accounting. In school, they didn't. They stopped doing that when I was in high school. We didn't learn. I don't even think we had an economics class, maybe one semester. Um, but hi, I don't think I picked really anything up in that class, but you know, I um, I grew up with two parents who worked, and we always seemed to have plenty of money. And I was fortunate, fortunate enough that my college education was paid for. My grandparents gave me a car. I really never had to worry about money. And my husband likes to make fun of me because he had a very different upbringing and was self-taught in how to manage money. To me, because of the way that I was brought up, that money was never, you know, an issue, and it just kind of came to me, and I didn't really understand it. One of my core beliefs that I uncovered was that money is a mystery to me, right? Like it's something that's totally out of my control, and um, my money management skills didn't come in until much later in life, like pretty recently. Um, there were times when I had no idea why I had only $9 in my bank account. It was a total mystery. No idea what's going on until I got really good at practicing, documenting, the money that came in, the money that went out. I was totally clueless. Now, if you're like I was and really afraid to look at your money, trust me, you can get through the fear. I know it's really scary. I have been there. It does not feel good to look at, you know, all the money going out and, you know, not enough money coming in to cover those expenses, and it feels like, once you look at it, like someone's sucker-punching you in the gut. But I promise you, the feeling of being in control and empowered will soon follow. So don't let, whether it's looking at your bank account for the first time or taking some other action toward your goals, don't let fear stop you from taking action. Fear is only temporary, and it's meant to protect you, but you are not in a real life-threatening, dangerous situation. Okay, you've got this. So that's the third tip: taking action toward your goals. This is the fourth and last: share wealth consciousness. This has to do with the law of cause and effect. One of the things that Jikande says in his book is that wealth also comes from sharing wealth consciousness, and he says that quantum physics shows us that the law of cause and effect is actually, I don't know if I'm saying this word right, multiplicative, meaning that you will not only one day experience what you cause others to experience or its equivalent, you will do so multiplicatively. So if you cause others to experience wealth and happiness, it will come back to you tenfold. It will come back to you much, much more. So take what you've learned today and share it with a friend. You could send them the book "A Happy Pocket Full of Money" (I'm, by the way, not an affiliate, just like a huge fan of this book) or you can even share this episode with them if you think that is something that they could easily digest.
This has been so much fun sharing wealth consciousness with you today, and I want to leave you with just acknowledging and understanding that achieving wealth may not be easy, and there may be some obstacles to overcome, like limiting beliefs, fear, self-sabotage. But I wanna let you know, I have no doubt in you, my friend, that you can overcome these things. You are capable and you are worthy.
Now, if you are one that thinks you might have some limiting beliefs around money, I invite you to take an inventory for yourself of all of the thoughts. I do this with my clients, um, with their thoughts about money. Is write down all of your thoughts about money and identify whose voice it really is. Is it mom's? Is it dad's? Some other authority? Or is it your true inner voice? And which of these thoughts do you want to keep? Which of them do you want to reframe? And know that the choice is 100% yours. You, as an adult, have complete agency over your mind. You choose your thoughts. Right? We're not always aware of the thoughts that we choose, but this exercise will absolutely help you to become aware of your thoughts about money. That's where, how I uncovered my belief that money is a mystery. And guess what? I chose to reframe it. I no longer believe that money is a mystery. Money is 100% in my control.
If you find yourself in some self-sabotaging patterns, you know, I don't know, maybe you get some money and then you just give it away and it's kind of impulsive, just seek some support, you know, find a trusted friend or a coach, someone that can help you to understand why that's happening so that you can start to break that cycle.
